白宫新闻秘书珍·普萨基在一份声明中表示，“根据美国疾病控制和预防中心 （CDC）建议，美国政府将对印度实行旅行限制措施。这一政策的实施是考虑到印度的（新冠肺炎确诊）病例数量异常之多，以及在印度传播的多种（新冠病毒）变异体。该政策将于5月4日生效。”

"On the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on Friday. "The policy will be implemented in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in the India. The policy will take effect on Tuesday, May 4."

据美国有线电视新闻网 （CNN）报道，旅行限制将不适用于美国公民、合法永久居民、人道主义工作者以及其他具有豁免权的人，但是登机前仍需要提供新冠肺炎阴性检测结果报告。

The policy will not apply to American citizens, lawful permanent residents or other people with exemptions. As with all international travelers, individuals who fit that criteria traveling from India must still test negative prior to leaving the country, quarantine if they have not been vaccinated and test negative again upon reentering the US from India. The restrictions also do not apply to humanitarian workers.

知情人士告诉CNN，美国政府将发布相关命令，限制在过去14天内曾到过印度的外国人进入美国。消息人士称，航空公司已被告知该决定。

The administration will issue a 212(f) order restricting entry into the US for foreign nationals who have been in India within the previous 14 days, a source familiar with the move said. Airlines have been told of the decision, a source said.

公告写道：印度“（新增病例）占全球三分之一以上”，“（美国政府）需要采取积极措施，保护国家公共健康免受（从印度）入境美国旅行者的影响”。

The proclamation said India "accounts for over one-third of new global cases" and added that "proactive measures are required to protect the nation's public health from travelers entering the United States" from India.

路透社援引消息人士的话称，对印度实施旅行限制的决定是在过去24小时内迅速做出的。

The decision to impose the latest travel restrictions came about quickly and was only reached in the last 24 hours, sources said.

目前，印度驻美国大使馆没有立即置评。

The Indian Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment.

据悉，美国国务院近日已建议美国公民不要前往印度，在印度的美国公民在安全情况下尽快离开，并批准美国政府雇员的家属可自愿离开印度。

印度卫生部30日公布的数据显示，该国较前一日新增新冠确诊病例386452例，累计确诊18762976例；新增死亡病例3498例，累计死亡208330例。印度单日新增确诊病例已连续9天超过30万例。

当地时间4月26日，世界卫生组织首席科学家苏米娅•斯瓦米纳坦 （Soumya Swaminathan）在接受CNN采访时表示，由于检测能力有限，印度疫情的形势被“严重低估” （a serious underestimate），印度实际感染人数可能已经达到官方报告数字的20到30倍。

Previous national surveys showed the number of such people is "at least 20 to 30 times higher than what had been reported," said WHO's Swaminathan.
